Kankakee County recognizes sheriff’s deputies and honors Sheriff Mike Downey’s 40 years of service

The sheriff praised both lieutenants for rising through the ranks and for their roles in the design and operation of the county’s jail facility. Certificates were presented as part of the recognitions.
The board also presented a recognition to Sheriff Mike Downey for 40 years of service to Kankakee County. Speakers at the meeting recounted Downey’s career path from the probation department to chief of corrections and under sheriff and then to elected sheriff; they noted he has been elected three times. Downey thanked staff and family and credited the department’s many employees for the work they do.
