Public Works reports progress on Oshawa Street, Washington Street intersection and garbage contract RFP

Robert and other Public Works staff reported to the Board of Public Works on June 2 that several street and utility projects are advancing and that an RFP for garbage collection is nearly ready to issue.
Robert said work on Oshawa Street is progressing: crews set string line and plan to start curb and gutter work subject to weather, with flat work to follow. The contractor had moved work toward the south end of the project to avoid conflicts while the Washington Street intersection remains constrained for a deep sanitary installation. Robert said the Washington Street intersection will be closed to through traffic for roughly a week and a half to complete a deep excavation (around 14 feet) for storm and sanitary structures; the team intends to complete the deepest portions of the dig and restore the intersection before resuming other sanitary work to the south.
Staff noted logistics challenges for biosolids hauling during wastewater upgrades (discussed in the PCAP presentation) and reconfirmed the public works schedule aims to complete base paving and pave from the intersection to the south side of Washington Street by July, weather permitting. Robert also said a garbage collection RFP is about three‑quarters done and expected to be completed and issued in the coming weeks.
Board members asked clarification questions about access during the Washington Street closure and construction scheduling; staff said local access will remain possible but through traffic is closed and heavy equipment will make movement tighter during active work.
The board set the next Public Works meeting for June 30 at 05:15 and adjourned the meeting by unanimous voice vote.
