Orange County pledges $5 million for Pulse memorial, Orlando commissioner says

Sheehan said she and local partners addressed the Orange County Commission and secured the funding commitment; she thanked County Mayor Jerry Demings and others for the county’s support. "We were able to secure a $5,000,000 commitment from Orange County for the Pulse Memorial," Commissioner Patty Sheehan said.
Sheehan credited local advocates and design teams — including Heather Fagan, the Pulse Committee, Baker Barrios and Catalyst — for their work advancing the memorial plan. She asked the community to observe remembrance events and noted support resources: OneBlood’s Remembrance Day blood drive on June 12 and Orlando United Resiliency Services counseling available at the center (phone (407) 228-8272; website thecenterorlando.org/ours).
Sheehan said she carried a rainbow rosary gifted by Mary Jacobs and reflected on the community’s need to continue healing and to build a memorial that honors the 49 victims of the Pulse tragedy. She thanked Orange County for its “right” decision and noted that the county has supported the community from the beginning of the memorial effort.
Why this matters: A $5 million county pledge represents a substantial local funding commitment toward building and maintaining a memorial for victims of the 2016 Pulse shooting.
