The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the City of Orlando approved a license agreement June 9 to allow the Walker Hendry House — often called the "yellow house" near Lake Lucerne — to be used as a base for the downtown clean team and ambassador program.
David (CRA staff) described the property as built in the 1890s and moved to its current location in the 1980s. The license agreement assigns responsibility for expenses associated with the building to the CRA and the city and CRA staff estimated annual expenses of roughly $15,000 to maintain the facility.
Commissioner Patty Sheehan moved the license agreement; Commissioner Rose seconded. The council heard no public comment on the item and voted the motion carried by voice vote.
The license formalizes use of the Walker Hendry House for city-sponsored clean team and ambassador operations and clarifies expense responsibilities for ongoing maintenance. Council members described the location as a fit for downtown operations and noted it keeps clean-team operations anchored in the central business district.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with implementing the license agreement and handling the building expenses as outlined in the CRA staff report.
