Fire‑service representatives described a long‑standing problem in which the adjacent road now drains into the station parking lot, causing ponding and winter icing. “We have a drainage system in our parking lot. But over the years, that road has been built up, and now it all drains into our parking lot,” a fire department representative said, explaining the operational and safety problem.
Public works reported three bids; the lowest bid came from Accurite Excavating at roughly $88,000. County staff said the new storm drain will daylight into a recently completed North Fork drainage run and will not increase downstream impacts because the county designed the receiving system to accommodate the flow.
Commissioners expressed support for quickly fixing the public‑safety and facility problem and agreed the expenditure would come from the Municipal Services Fund balance. Commissioner discussion noted the county has a statutory duty to continue municipal services in the area while incorporation questions persist; staff said the county can allocate municipal funds to maintain services prior to any new city's incorporation and that a budget change will be required before the contract can be executed.
