The Metro Human Relations Commission voted Thursday to approve a 15% salary increase for Executive Director Edie Tucker, effective July 1, 2025, following an evaluation of his performance and discussion of equity with comparable positions.
The commission’s performance review highlighted the executive director’s leadership on investigations, community visibility, language-access and anti-hate initiatives, and staff growth despite a small team. Commissioners praised Tucker’s vision and recommended the 15% increase as a further step toward parity with other department directors.
Commissioners discussed administrative and HR steps for implementing a raise. Staff advised the commission that the increase must be budgeted and processed through Metro Human Resources and payroll systems. A finance staff member confirmed the funds for the incremental increase remain in the commission’s payroll allocation and that the department uses Oracle R12 for salary administration.
The motion to approve the evaluation and the 15% increase was moved and seconded; the chair called for a vote and commissioners approved the recommendation by voice vote. Staff said the commission’s evaluation and recommendation will be retained in the personnel record and forwarded to Metro HR to process per standard procedures.
Commissioners said the raise is part of a multi-year effort to improve parity between the MHRC executive position and other department directors; prior budget adjustments had begun that work and this was described as an incremental step. Staff also noted reclassification and compensation adjustments for other staff members were being considered as part of the broader staffing plan.
Vote outcome: motion passed; staff reported unanimity in the recorded voice vote. The commission directed staff to work with HR and finance to implement the increase per Metro procedures.
