Summary

The Hastings City Council voted 7-0 to approve an agreement with NLC LLC of York to perform concrete pavement repairs at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and D Street and on D Street between Woodland Avenue and Emerson Avenue.
Lee, staff member, told the council the city opened bids on May 7 and received four proposals, with NLC submitting the low bid of $162,028.65. “This is 12,000 over what we had budgeted,” Lee said, adding that the scope of patching was larger than originally expected and that there is room in the street sales tax fund because other projects ran under budget.
The bid came in under the engineer’s estimate of $210,000, Lee said. Council members also noted NLC is under contract for two other city projects this summer and that the contractor plans to group the jobs to finish before winter. Councilmember Konzbrook moved to approve the agreement; Councilmember Anderson seconded. The motion passed 7-0.
Council members asked about traffic impacts near Brickyard Park and were told staff will coordinate with event organizers so at least one entrance remains open. When asked where NLC is based, Lee said, “York, Nebraska.”
The motion approved the contract amount of $162,028.65 and authorized staff to proceed with awarding the work to NLC LLC. No amendments to the award were proposed during the discussion.
The council moved on to subsequent business after the vote.
