Sandpoint commission approves drop-in summer walking tours, drops preregistration

The Sandpoint Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation Commission voted on June 10 to run drop-in summer walking tours this year instead of preregistered tours, citing limited departmental staffing.
Chairwoman Ellie Suskis said the arts department had limited bandwidth for preregistration and would instead schedule two to four drop-in walking tours. Suskis asked staff to coordinate dates and publicity: "When we know what dates we're gonna have, we'll let [Cammy] know 3 weeks ahead so that we can, advertise that on the city website and the park's social media and probably the regular city's social media."
A commissioner made a motion "to that effect," and the motion was seconded. The commission then voted by voice; the record shows "All in favor? Any opposed? None heard. Motion passes." Commissioners said they will coordinate with Parks staff and community volunteers to lead tours, and that the commission will consider involving members or partner staff to run an initial walk with Parks & Rec staff to test the format.
Commissioners also discussed educational outreach tied to the tours, including possible involvement by local teachers and high-school students. Suskis said the commission would seek images and captions for any digital materials and would place tour information on the city's web and social channels.
Next steps: staff will propose specific dates to the commission and post the drop-in tour offerings at least three weeks before each date.
