Commission introduces final City of Mesquite art historical map; seeks funding for printing and distribution

The Mesquite Public Arts Commission on May 19 introduced a final version of a hand-drawn City of Mesquite art historical map created by artist Jen Erso (Steady Hand Maps) and paid for by an anonymous donor via Morph. Commissioners discussed printing options, distribution points and potential funding sources to cover printing costs.

Commissioners said the map is ready in a print-ready 11-by-17 version and in a web version for the city website. The commission discussed distributing free printed copies at the visitor center, chamber of commerce and other points of interest. Jerry (commissioner) raised the possibility of selling advertising on the map to offset printing costs; commissioners also discussed asking the city manager whether the city would contribute funds and seeking Travel Nevada or Nevada arts/leisure grants.

Commissioners reported that Morph paid for the artist's work and that the artist offered assistance to vendors for printing. One commissioner said earlier Main Street/Nevada Arts Council contacts had already taken interest in the map. Commissioners agreed to show the map to the acting city manager and city staff to ask about printing support and web posting. No formal motion was made to commit funds; follow-up items include getting price quotes for printing (500 or 1,000 copies) and confirming whether the city will officially approve or fund distribution.
