Clark County’s All In Clark County regional climate collaborative on May 27 briefed the Mesquite City Council on progress implementing the county’s Community Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, presenting updated greenhouse-gas accounting, outreach results and opportunities for local collaboration.
Deputy Director Jody Bechtel of Clark County’s Department of Environment and Sustainability and Mike Steinhoff, director of climate analysis at Kim Lundgren Associates, presented findings that countywide emissions fell about 7% between 2019 and 2022 and that the two largest source categories across the region are building energy use (electricity and natural gas) and on-road transportation. The presenters said electrification, energy efficiency and cleaner electricity supplies are the largest near-term opportunities to reduce emissions.
