Commission discusses using Morph to accept donations for Mesquite Public Arts Commission

The Mesquite Public Arts Commission on May 19 discussed options for accepting donations for Impact/MPAC, including using Morph (described in the meeting as a 501(c)(3)) to collect and segregate funds for commission projects.

Commissioners said the city website currently has no mechanism to donate directly to MPAC. The commission's working preference, described in the meeting, is to route charitable contributions through Morph so donors could receive tax-deduction guidance from their accountants and so the funds could be pooled and accounted for separately. One commissioner said Morph would hold donations in a segregated account and match funds as appropriate.

Commissioners discussed logistics: whether donations routed through a nonprofit would be easier to manage than city coffers and whether donors would understand the tax implications. One commissioner said Karen (commissioner) preferred using Morph because city procedures make it difficult to access money once it is placed in city accounts. The meeting record showed no formal motion to change policy or to create a new donation account; commissioners discussed following up with Morph and with city staff and updating MPAC public-facing pages to explain donation procedures.

Commissioners also discussed updating MPAC's public pages and brochures to reflect current commissioners and recent accomplishments, and agreed that the commission chair (George) would match donations made through Morph up to a stated limit and would provide Morph's address to interested donors.
