The Oregon House adopted the Special Committee on Credentials report and seated Doctor Sue Ricky Smith, who will represent House District 26, the presiding officer announced.
Representative Bowman, chair of the special committee, introduced the report and recommended that “the following member is entitled to a seat in the House of Representatives for the 83rd Legislative Assembly: Sue Ricky Smith replacing Courtney Neeron Mislan representing the 26th District.” Bowman moved adoption of the committee’s report and later described Smith’s background: “Doctor Sue Ricky Smith comes to us with a deep experience in both health and education. Earlier in her career she served as a trauma and public health nurse. She became an educator eventually was selected as the Oregon middle school principal of the year and led two large school districts in Oregon.”
There was no extended floor debate. The presiding officer called the question, members voted, and the motion to adopt the report carried. The clerk subsequently announced the new member’s placement in the chamber and directed House officers to escort Representative Sue Ricky Smith to her desk.
The certificate of the credentials committee and the adopted report are entered into House records; the transcript records the committee appointment, the recommendation and the adoption vote.
