Sheriff's Office detention center health plan reviewed; staff seeks final board approval next week

Harnett County staff on Monday asked the Board of Commissioners to approve the Harnett County Sheriff's Office Detention Center health plan provided by Southern Health Partners, reporting that the plan has been reviewed internally and signed by required officials.
"Each year, we have to review the health plan for them that's provided by Southern Health Partners," Gary McNeil said, reporting that the county health department (Ainsley), the sheriff's office and the sheriff have reviewed and signed off on the plan and that the last approval comes from the board.
Why it matters: County boards commonly must approve detention-center health contracts or plans to ensure medical care for incarcerated persons meets statutory and contractual requirements. Staff said the health department and sheriff's office have already signed the plan.
Action taken: The board directed staff to add the detention health plan to next week's consent agenda for formal approval; no final board approval was taken at the work session.
