City staff said the city will accept an Energy Southeast community-development grant (Energy Southeast is the new name for AMEA) to fund a mural for the tunnel at Flying Creek Nature Preserve and that staff and council leadership reached consensus on a design.
Staff said the selection process was handled by city staff and Council President Burrell reviewed the artist submissions. The design chosen is referred to as “STAR” and staff said they will ask the artist to add the text “Fly Creek Nature Preserve” to the mural so the park name appears on the artwork.
Staff framed the mural as part of a longstanding community-development grant relationship with Energy Southeast and noted the resolution includes authorization to expend the funds. The work session provided a consensus endorsement rather than a final public art contract; the item will appear on a future agenda for formal action.
No cost or artist contract details were provided during the work session; staff said the artwork was not included in the publicly posted bid package because the design is proprietary to the artist.
