Commissioners add three‑year maintenance agreement for correctional-facility solar array to consent agenda

County commissioners discussed cost effectiveness and asked about replacement parts and glass maintenance; staff said replacement of broken panels or glass would be billed separately and that the county will perform routine cleaning annually using inmates at the correctional facility as part of a supervised program. The facilities presenter said cleaning "does revert to our staff" and that they plan to schedule inmate crews for annual cleaning under supervision.
A commissioner moved to add the maintenance agreement with Solar Renewable Energy LLC to next week’s consent agenda; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote. Staff said the maintenance cost is under $8,000 per year on average and noted the array’s electricity production and renewable energy credits reduce county energy costs substantially.
Discussion versus decision: the board’s vote added the maintenance agreement to the consent agenda; no final contract adoption occurred that morning. Staff will present the item for formal approval at the consent meeting; at that time commissioners will record the final vote to execute the contract.
