City requests transfer to cover temporary labor services after hiring success

City staff told the Fairhope City Council work session that the temporary labor company used to fill entry-level landscaping, streets and construction positions has been successful and that payroll for those employees has exhausted the allocation set aside under the temp-labor contract.
Staff said the city initially budgeted $50,000, later raised the allocation to $75,000, and has now exceeded that amount. Staff said they already have four temporary employees in landscaping and one in streets and construction whose combined salaries have exhausted the contract amount; as a result staff requested a transfer from the city’s salaries account into the temp-labor contract to cover existing employees.
Council members asked clarifying questions about where the employees are assigned and the nature of the transfer; staff said the action is an accounting transfer to cover salaries already incurred and not a request to hire additional positions. The work session did not include a formal vote; staff will present the transfer resolution for formal action if needed.
