Bradley County mayor presents year-end budget amendments, asks commission to schedule parking-lot bid and HUD fund closure

County Mayor Davis on Thursday distributed updated budget pages and asked the Bradley County Board of Commissioners to place several housekeeping resolutions on next week’s voting session, including accepting a parking-lot bid and formally closing an older HUD house-grant fund.
Davis said finance approved end-of-year amendments last Friday and that the changes affect several pages of the budget book. “The state notified us that the amount of a grant changed from 861,000 to 656,” Davis said. He also told commissioners the county’s HUD house-grant account contains “a 161,000 in it today.”
The mayor asked that a resolution accepting the lowest and best bid for concreting the parking lot on Menace Road be placed on next Monday’s agenda; Commissioner Hughes agreed to place that resolution on the agenda. Davis said bids have not yet been opened and that the blanks in the resolution will be filled before the vote.
Davis also asked commissioners to place on next week’s agenda a resolution, requested by auditors, to close an old “house grant” fund (a HUD-related account). He said the auditors recommended closing the distinct fund while keeping the money reserved for housing uses: “The money still has to stay reserved for that purpose,” Davis said, and the funds could remain available for future housing activities or to match other housing grants.
Separately, Commissioner Blake reviewed certified tax-rate figures provided by the Comptroller’s office that the commission must adopt by resolution on June 27. Blake said the countywide rate currently at 1.4392 would move to 0.9904 under the new certification and that the value per penny will rise from about $370,000 to approximately $473,131; he asked staff to circulate the hard numbers to commissioners.
No final votes were taken on the items at Thursday’s meeting; the mayor and commissioners directed staff to place the parking-lot bid resolution and the HUD fund-closure resolution on the next voting-session agenda and to proceed with the tax-rate resolution for action on June 27.
