Vero Volunteer Fire Department to conduct parking-garage training downtown

Chief Chris Ellis, of the Vero Volunteer Fire Department, told the Fairhope City Council work session that the department will conduct a training drill at the downtown parking garage tomorrow.
Ellis said the department will pull hose lines and practice access and response procedures but “we will not be flowing any water” and the alleyway will not be blocked. He said the department had not run a drill at that garage in “probably 7 or 8 years” and that the training follows the loss of the department’s training center.
The notice was given so residents who see fire apparatus downtown will not be alarmed, Ellis said. The update was delivered during the council’s opening work-session remarks and no formal council action was requested.
The department did not describe a public-safety incident tied to the drill; the presentation was informational only.
City staff did not indicate any street closures or public-notification changes beyond the verbal notice to council.
