Lawrence County commissioners on June 10 reappointed six volunteers to serve on the West Central Workforce Investment Board, the two-county workforce board that the federal government requires be appointed by county commissioners.
The nut graf: The appointments cover representatives from small business, education and organized labor sectors; the board’s role is advisory and supports workforce and training initiatives across the two-county West Central region.
The board approved reappointments by a single motion covering six names recommended by staff: Autumn Bonzo (small business, employed at Flowline EZflow in Shenango Township, term June 1, 2025–June 30, 2026); Lisa Campbell (education and training, Butler County Community College, term July 1, 2025–June 30, 2028); Gary Grant (small business, owner/manager at PAPCOR in New Castle); Adam Neff (small business, Blackhawk Neff, Mechanic Township); Howard Thompson (organized labor, resident of New Castle, representing the Beaver-Lawrence Central Labor Council); and James Hill (small business, Hill Railroad Car Company, New Castle). Commissioners asked if there were any concerns; none were raised and the motion passed by roll call.
Staff said the appointments follow federal requirements for sector representation on the workforce board and that Mercer County will nominate its own appointees for the two-county board. No compensation or budgets were discussed during the reappointments.
The reappointed members will continue in volunteer roles on the West Central Workforce Investment Board and are expected to participate in workforce development activities per board bylaws and federal guidance.
