Commissioners approve $108,304 CDBG allocation for Shenango Township park ADA upgrades

The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners on June 10 approved a budget amendment to direct $108,304 in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) revenue to the 2024 Shenango Township park ADA project.

The nut graf: County planning staff had initially listed the transaction with an incorrect description; after staff confirmed the funds are for Shenango Park ADA accessibility work, commissioners approved the amendment so the project could be put out to bid.

Amy McKinney of the planning office (not present) had requested the transfer. During the meeting staff confirmed the five-digit project code was correct but the description on the back of the form mistakenly read “CYS Transportation.” County staff corrected that entry on the record to read “2024 Shenango Township Park ADA.” Commissioner discussion noted the urgency because the planning office wanted to advertise the work for bid. The board unanimously approved the amended resolution after staff verification.

Clarifying details discussed included that the $108,304 is CDBG (federal) revenue targeted to park ADA improvements at Shenango Park in Shenango Township and that the amendment was approved to allow timely bidding. No construction contract was awarded at the meeting; staff said the change would allow the project to move to bid.

Officials asked staff to confirm project documentation; staff indicated they will proceed with bid preparation once the amendment is entered correctly into county records. The board took no further action beyond approving the budget amendment.
