Roanoke City Council on June 2 adopted an ordinance amending the city's electronic fee compendium for fiscal 2025–26 to remove unused fees, correct fees carried over in error and clarify descriptive language for fee structure and remittances.
Interim budget manager Kasecki told council this new initiative aims to increase transparency by ensuring the public sees accurate fee descriptions and knows where fees are remitted. He gave the example of a treasurer's-office fee for debt setoff that is remitted to the state; the compendium language was updated to state that explicitly.
Council adopted the ordinance by roll-call vote. Staff said the fee schedule will be posted on the city's website and also included in the budget document for public access. Council members expressed appreciation for the cleanup and for work to increase clarity about fees and their disposition.
