Poquoson announces short-term construction and service changes: Amory's Wharf work, traffic signal activity, Rite Aid closure

Assistant City Manager Tanya O’Connell told council that the Amory’s Wharf living-shoreline contractor requested a notice to proceed immediately and staff expects construction activity to begin this week; the work is expected to take about four weeks and will temporarily close the launch pad.
O’Connell said citizens should avoid the construction area and that the city will post notices. “Tomorrow, we’re gonna put out, the news that Amory’s Wharf, starting Thursday, you’re gonna see some activities down there,” she said.
City Manager Randy also informed council that the traffic-signal contractor will install the signal arms at the Legacy intersection on Thursday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.; single-lane closures are expected with short full closures possible during major lifts. He recommended motorists consider alternate routes during those hours.
Randy additionally reported that the local Rite Aid is scheduled to close as part of the chain’s national reductions; the last open day is June 12. Existing prescriptions on file will be transferred to the Kroger pharmacy near Kiln Creek unless customers contact their provider to request a different pharmacy.
No council action was required; staff said they will publicize the construction windows, roadwork impacts and the pharmacy closure through the city’s usual channels.
