Opioid advisory board opens another round of grants; public presentation set for July 23

The Johnson County opioid advisory board will open a new round of grant opportunities for local organizations providing evidence-based prevention, treatment, recovery, harm reduction, behavioral health workforce support, jail treatment, recovery residences and other services permitted by the National Opioid Settlement.
Council member Pam Burton, who attended the advisory board meeting, said the municipalities that joined the county's pooled distribution (all except Greenwood) combined their funds for distribution through the county advisory board. Burton said the board distributed more than $200,000 in grants to Johnson County organizations in 2024.
Burton said the new application round will open in June (exact application open/close dates were described in the meeting materials) and that the opioid advisory board will hold a public meeting at 10 a.m. July 23 to hear presentations from applicants. The board will make funding recommendations to the commissioners, which will then be presented to the county council for final action.
Funding from the program is distributed as reimbursements after applicants submit invoices or paid receipts, Burton said. She described the program as expected to continue for approximately 10 years under the settlement framework and said the board is seeking to fund a range of services across prevention and recovery.
