The Lynn City Board of Health voted to post a public hearing at its next meeting to consider proposed items described as "retirement caps" and to take up tobacco-license issues previously postponed, staff said.
A Health Department staff member told the board that because the items could impose costs or change licensing requirements, the Law Department advised holding a public hearing. The staff member proposed posting the hearings at the board’s next scheduled meeting in July and said the board could meet sooner, with proper public notice, if members wished to refine proposed language before the hearing.
Board members agreed that the hearing should be used to collect public input rather than as the night for a final decision. One board member said the board should not decide final language the night of the hearing and suggested discussing proposed language in a properly posted meeting or Zoom session prior to the hearing.
The board voted in favor of posting the public hearing. No final action was taken on retirement caps or tobacco-license changes at the meeting.
