Construction update: Pine View K'8 school, Edwins, Destin and other sales-tax projects moving toward summer milestones

A report from the district's construction committee provided a progress update on multiple sales-tax-funded construction projects across Okaloosa County.

The committee representative said task-order work at Edwins Elementary (old cafeteria demolition) is completed and the new furniture is expected by July with target completion this summer or by the end of the calendar year for some elements. A 15-foot totem pole being shipped from Nebraska was described as ready to ship and expected soon. The committee reported that the new boardroom and offices have furniture installed and the target to hold an August meeting in the new boardroom remains the district's timeline.

On the district's largest projects, committee members reported the Pine View K'8 campus foundation work is finished, transformers are in place and vertical block work and slab placement are progressing; power hook-up was expected soon. Destin Elementary has completed underslab rough-in work and begun vertical construction; Baker construction had block work roughly 5 feet tall. Smaller projects include completed softball press boxes and concession buildings at Fort Walton Beach and Crestview High School (punch list remains), ongoing gym floor and bleacher installation at Meg's/Destin Middle School, phase-based paving at Crestview with parts slated for summer completion, and multiple roofing projects scheduled across several schools. The committee also noted approval and planned summer work on 26 priority restroom projects funded by the sales tax.

The representative answered a few board questions about sequencing and target dates, and emphasized that some timelines are dependent on contractor schedules and will be completed as work allows. No formal board action was recorded on the update; it was presented as information.
