Cooksey Trust offers to pay select airport hangar leases; council accepts $15,000 arrangement for several hangars

The City Council accepted an offer from the Cooksey Trust to pay the lease amounts for several airport hangars currently land-leased from the city for the next three years, an arrangement the city reported would total about $15,000.
City staff presented the offer, saying Gary Holland represented the Cooksey Trust and proposed the payment. Josh said the trust had been selective about which hangars to cover and that not all lessees would be notified as recipients. “One of them does not live in the state and does not currently have an airplane in it. So that was one reason,” Josh said when describing the selection criteria the trust used.
Councilors approved the acceptance of the grant arrangement. Staff cautioned that if hangars change ownership, the trust would want to be consulted and that the payment arrangement may be contingent on continued use and ownership by the same individuals.
The council approved the motion by voice vote; staff said they will notify hangar owners not covered by the offer and continue discussions with Mr. Holland about any ownership changes.
