Council adopts model code of ethics language; forms to be signed by members

The Lincoln City Council reviewed and accepted a model code of ethics and conduct for elected and appointed officials at the May 22 meeting and agreed members would sign a written commitment.
The mayor read the model statement aloud and described its elements — valuing members’ contributions, promoting civility and respect, upholding honesty and fairness, protecting privacy and pursuing the public good — and said copies would be signed and dated by council and commission members as an acknowledgment. “As a member of the Lincoln City Council or a Lincoln board or commission, I commit to upholding the code of ethics and conduct,” the mayor read.
The auditor will maintain the signed documents in personnel files. Council members indicated they had no further changes and the mayor set the date on the form as May 22, 2025 for signatures.
There was no contrary motion recorded on the minutes; council agreed to the proposed language and the process for signature and recordkeeping.
