A Marysville resident who said she uses crutches and sometimes a wheelchair urged the City Council to improve accessibility at the lakeside baseball and softball fields, citing difficult walking surfaces, steps to bleachers and cramped handicap parking.
The resident described struggling to climb bleacher steps while balancing crutches, crawling to reach a front-row seat and facing hazards on the rocky approach path. “It’s pretty humiliating. It’s degrading,” she said, asking the council to consider installing a ramp at the Legion Field-style sections of the lakeside bleachers.
Councilors acknowledged the complaint and suggested the Parks and Recreation committee review placement of permanent ramps and additional handicap parking. Josh, the city administrator, said staff can pass the request to the parks committee and noted that staff will follow up.
The resident also reported that handicap parking spaces are often blocked by large vehicles parked legally but leaving inadequate clearance for those using mobility aids; she asked the council to consider angled parking or other modifications to ease access.
No formal action or funding was taken at the meeting; council members said they would place the matter before the Parks and Recreation committee for discussion and potential recommendations.
