Commission approves $527,000 design contract amendment for museum expansion

The Dickinson City Commission approved a contract amendment May 20 with GT Architecture to complete design and construction bid documents for the Prairie Outpost Park museum expansion.
Senior engineer Chris Keller said the amendment is a lump‑sum amendment of $527,000 to provide detailed design, construction documentation and bidding assistance. The work will be funded from local sales tax and the North Dakota Department of Commerce Destination Development grant. Keller said conceptual design is complete and the amendment moves the project into detailed design; a construction manager‑at‑risk is already on board to assist with procurement and preconstruction services.
The amendment includes ADA upgrades to existing restrooms, relocation of some park features to accommodate the building footprint and site work to reroute utilities. The contract language shows a “not to exceed” amount for the design fees; staff said any change in scope could incur additional fees but that the amendment covers an extensive set of deliverables. The commission voted to approve the contract amendment.
