Commission OKs vacation plat to consolidate accesses in industrial area near US-81

The Fargo Planning Commission approved a city-initiated vacation plat for a portion of right-of-way in an industrial area north of US-81 intended to consolidate lots and reduce the number of access points onto US-81.
Donald Kress, planning staff, said the area is in an industrial neighborhood currently outside city limits but moving through annexation. He explained the vacation breaks the right-of-way roughly half-and-half between adjacent properties and that where Fiftieth Avenue had already been dedicated earlier, most of the area will go to the adjacent lot to the north. Kress said there are no utilities within the right-of-way and several of the affected lots are under common ownership and will be consolidated for tax purposes through the assessor after recording.
During discussion a commissioner asked whether Lots 7 through 12 would have a single access off Highway 81; Kress said consolidation would reduce access points and provide one access for those consolidated lots. No public comments were made. The commission moved to approve the staff-recommended motion and recorded a roll-call vote in favor.
Decision and next steps: The vacation plat will be recorded along with the plat; property owners will sign as required and assessor consolidation will follow as described in staff materials.
