Mount Vernon City said it is beginning inspection of more than 150 public and private detention ponds around town as part of routine stormwater maintenance.
Officials said Brian Solis, the city's stormwater engineering technician, will inspect pond infrastructure starting at the inflow, document conditions with annual photos, and check outflows near manholes; staff will remove cattails or debris that could block drainage into Maddox Creek. The city also noted that the annual June flood wall inspection includes opening and inspecting the stop-log storage container and confirming components are in good condition. All inspections are to be completed before the city's flood season begins in October.
