Police chief reports April aggravated assault at bar, says liquor-related incidents declining

Police Chief Zabulski told the City Commission about an aggravated-assault incident April 27 that began inside a bar and led to shots fired outside; officers made an arrest after reviewing internal and outside video from the establishment.
“We did have, or this month, an aggravated assault in the OB on April 27,” Chief Zabulski said, adding that bar staff and venue cameras helped investigators. The chief described the incident as a known conflict among involved parties and said they were able to identify and arrest a suspect “in pretty short order.”
Zabulski told commissioners liquor-related enforcement issues have declined overall. “We’ve kind of had our liquor issues decreasing quite a bit,” he said, noting routine bar checks continue and the department has not identified persistent problem locations.
A commissioner praised the bar for cooperation with police and thanked officers for the positive report. No disciplinary actions or license suspensions were announced during the report.
The chief said one unrelated case remains in litigation, and the department will continue compliance visits and partnerships with establishments to maintain public safety.
