Police report multiple narcotics and other enforcement actions; fire department receives grant for thermal-imaging cameras

Police Chief Mustermund told council investigators executed a search warrant that led to a large seizure — reported as about one pound of methamphetamine — and multiple arrests and felony charges. He said the department also handled a felony domestic case where the suspect remained held with no bond, an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) matter involving a military-affiliated suspect and other incidents including a brandishing-at-a-business case with an arrest and recovery of a firearm, shoplifting repeat-identity incidents that led to vehicle stops and a traffic encounter that resulted in terminated pursuit after safety review. The chief thanked partnering agencies (Missouri State Highway Patrol and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office) for assistance.
Fire Chief Jennings reported the department saw a spike in calls on one weekend in May and that the city budget included capital funds to buy thermal-imaging cameras. Jennings said the department applied for and received $7,442 from Hero Fund USA to supplement equipment purchases; the award will increase the department’s inventory of personal thermal-imaging cameras to 25, covering all staffed positions.
No formal council action was taken on either informational update.
