Administrative Services staff informed the council that the Missouri State Auditor’s Office has begun an audit of the closeout of the Hawthorne Transportation Development District (TDD).
The staff report said the city received approximately $600,000 of excess funds when the TDD was abolished earlier this year. Administrative staff told council those funds remained unspent and that the state auditor’s review focuses on proper use of the closeout proceeds. The city previously underwent an audit of the TDD last fall, which staff said contributed to the board’s decision to abolish the district in January; this current audit is limited to the closeout and disposition of funds.
Staff said they expect the closeout audit to be routine and that they will report back if the auditor raises questions or recommendations.
No action was required of council at the meeting.
