Palos Park police report: 948 calls for service, new online-exchange zone and solicitor registration reminders

Palos Park police reported 948 calls for service in the May 26–June 8 reporting period and updated the council June 9 on community-safety programs and guidance for residents.

Commissioner Polk delivered the police activity summary: 948 calls for service; 17 citizen assists; nine case reports; four accident reports; four adult arrests; two impounded vehicles; 124 traffic stops; 48 moving violations; 36 adjudication tickets; and 74 speeding tickets. Polk announced Coffee with a Cop at Plush Horse at 11 a.m. the following Wednesday and said the department continues to distribute free bicycle helmets at the capture center during regular business hours.

Polk raised online-safety concerns for children and noted that gaming platforms can provide opportunities for predators to pose as other players. He said the capture-center parking lot is monitored 24/7 by closed-circuit cameras and is designated as an online-exchange zone to provide a safer public meeting point for transactions arranged online.

Polk also addressed solicitor activity and village rules: solicitors must register with the village and residents can post “no soliciting” signs (the village can provide the sign) to prevent doorstep solicitations. Citizens were encouraged to call 911 to report problematic solicitors so officers can check registration and activity in real time. Polk also reminded residents to avoid impaired driving and said recent incidents involved suspected impaired drivers who were cited.

A council member asked about ice cream trucks operating in neighborhoods; Polk said he would check whether the activity is permitted. No formal action was taken; these items were presented as informational updates.
