Palos Park adopts 2021 ICC codes, 2020 NEC and 2015 NFPA 101; implementation begins June 1

Commissioner Wade told the council June 9 that Palos Park has adopted updated building and safety codes effective June 1: the 2021 International Code Council (ICC) codes (including the building code, existing building code, residential code, fuel gas code and mechanical code), the 2020 National Electric Code (NEC), and the 2015 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 Life Safety Code.
Wade said the council approved the updates last month and directed staff to implement them; the building department provided a brief activity update for the new fiscal year, reporting 37 permits processed between May 7 and June 3 that generated $8,369 in permit fees and a year-to-date total of $19,175.05 in permit revenue for the new fiscal year.
Wade also announced a scheduling change related to the village’s development-code update: the regularly scheduled plan commission meeting for June 19 was canceled and a joint meeting of the plan commission and zoning board of appeals will be held Wednesday, June 18 at 6 p.m. in the council chamber to continue review of the draft development regulations and zoning revisions. The meeting will be open to the public as previous sessions have been.
