The Palos Park council approved a $11,920 proposal June 9 to replace the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system firewall that isolates the village water controls from the internet.
Commissioner Patan told council the village’s existing Cisco ASA 5505 firewall has reached end-of-life and will no longer be manufacturer-supported. Centric Integration — identified in the presentation as the firm that has maintained Palos Park’s SCADA since 2016 and formerly associated with Baxter & Woodman Control Systems — proposed a Fortinet firewall appliance, a five-year warranty and five years of updates for a lump sum of $11,920. "Centric... proposes to furnish and install the new firewall and do all the work for a lump sum of $11,920," Patan said during the presentation.
Council members voted unanimously to approve the proposal; the purchase will be paid from the water fund, and staff indicated money is budgeted for the work. No public speakers addressed the contract.
Council did not record any amendments to the proposal; the vendor will install the new appliance and provide warranty and software updates as described in the Centric Integration proposal.
