Palos Park council adopts 2.9% water rate increase to cover regional transmission main costs

The Village of Palos Park council voted unanimously June 9 to adopt an ordinance that raises the village water rate from $13.85 to $14.25 per 1,000 gallons, an increase of $0.40 per 1,000 gallons overall and a 2.9% change for village customers.

Commissioner Patan said the village is proposing an $0.11-per-1,000-gallon increase to cover costs tied to improvements on the regional water transmission main. "If there's no discussion, I'd like to move to approve adopting ordinance 2025-512 entitled an ordinance amending part 10, title 4, chapter 1046, section 1046.32 of the Palos Park Village code in regard to water rates," Patan said before the roll call vote.

The council cited recent rate increases by Oak Lawn and the City of Chicago — described in the presentation as a combined $0.29-per-1,000-gallon rise — and recommended Palos Park add $0.11 to its portion of the rate. The staff presentation included example household impacts: a two-month bill based on an average usage of 6,000 gallons would rise from $83.10 to $85.50.

The ordinance amends the village code provision identified in the motion as section 1046.32; council action was taken by roll call, with Commissioners Patan, Wade and Polk and Mayor Milovich Walters voting yes. The ordinance was recorded as ordinance 2025-512 in the motion language presented to the council.

No members of the public spoke on the item at the meeting, and no amendments or conditions were recorded during debate. The change takes effect as provided by the ordinance and village procedures for code amendments.
