The finance committee set a public hearing for June 23 on the Community Development Administration's Neighborhood Assistance Program (Program Year 51) applications and invited the Ward Heitman House to answer questions about its proposed use of $24,500.
Ron Dumas, housing specialist with the CDA, said he received three applications for the tax-credit program: West Haven Child Development Center Inc. ($15,000), Ward Heitman House Museum Foundation Inc. ($24,500), and West Haven Community House ($20,000). The state deadline for submitting applications is July 1; Dumas said the state requires projects to be completed in the calendar year and that awards above $25,000 require a certified audit.
Committee members asked for more information about Ward Heitman House plans and asked the foundation to attend the next meeting to explain how it will spend the grant. Councilman John Johnson asked about the long-term plan for the historic house, referencing prior funding and uncompleted projects such as a roof-repair request.
The committee set the public hearing and requested that a Ward Heitman representative attend the hearing to provide details about the $24,500 request and future plans for the property.
