Board approves auditor, Chromebook purchase and West Henderson flooring; multiple contracts moved forward

The Henderson County Board of Public Education approved a slate of contracts and capital purchases during its June meeting, clearing several staff recommendations needed before the new school year.
Key approvals included a one-year audit contract with Goldklillian (Gould Killian) for the 2024—2025 audit period; staff said the vendor provided competitive pricing and the district expects a faster delivery timeline for next year. The board also approved procurement of roughly 2,700 Chromebooks through CDW as part of the district—s technology lifecycle replacement plan.
The board authorized continued access to several specialized service vendors on annual contracts, including nursing services that can be deployed if a student requires full-time nursing (BAYADA Home Health), sign-language interpreter services, and a crisis counseling contract funded by a Project SERV grant to provide licensed social work services.
Separately, the board approved a flooring upgrade at West Henderson High School, allocating up to $175,000 to replace corridor flooring with 3—23 carpet tiles and new base coving; the current quote was $173,072. The administration said the work must be ordered promptly because lead times for custom carpet tiles are approximately eight weeks and the installer is a state-contract vendor who completed a similar project at Flat Rock Middle School.
Board members also approved continuing contracts for driver's education delivery, WNC developmental day services for students with IEPs, and other purchases on the consent list; administrators noted many of those services are state-funded or covered through program allocations. The board passed a single motion directing staff to proceed with the contracts and purchases presented.
Administrators said several capital projects are underway or out to bid for the summer, including card access installations at schools, HVAC upgrades, a new generator at Mills River Academy, classroom flooring replacements, and stadium bleacher replacement at East Henderson. Bids for some MRTS (Major Repair, Renovation & Construction) projects were expected to open in late May and June.
