Socorro ISD board approves six additional employment contracts; amends physician contract

At a June 9 special meeting, the Socorro ISD Board of Trustees approved two personnel actions: issuance of six additional teacher employment contracts for 2025–26 and an amendment extending the district physician’s 2024–25 contract through Sept. 30, 2025.
Chief human resources officer Selena Stiles asked trustees to approve additional teacher contracts and provided an update: "From the action that was taken during the May 5 special board meeting this evening, we are bringing back 6 contracts for your approval, reducing the number of employees impacted by the reduction in force from 36 to 30," she said.
Legal counsel Steve Blanco told the board that among the contracts being issued are four teachers for whom administration had previously recommended nonrenewal: E. Genova, I. Lopez, El Renovato and Kate Kessler. Blanco said counsel for those employees was aware of the change and that issuing contracts "should make the need for hearings on the proposed nonrenewal moot." He added there was agreement from counsel for all but one of the affected employees and that staff expected the remaining matter to resolve.
Board action: Trustee Guerra moved to approve the additional teacher employment contracts; Trustee Rodriguez seconded. The board voted to approve the item (voice vote: "Aye" recorded; no individual roll call recorded in the transcript). The item passed.
Clinic physician contract amendment Stiles then introduced item 4b, an amendment to the physician’s 2024–25 employment contract to extend the contract period through Sept. 30, 2025. She said the amendment was requested "to comply with the Texas Medical Board, remove liability for, Innovares and the district, and allow, the staff at the clinic to properly transition patient information, medications, so patients experience a smooth transition to a new provider or pharmacy of choice." Trustee Woodcraft moved to approve the amendment; Trustee Galvez seconded. The board voted in favor (voice vote: "Aye"); the item passed.
