Council awards tennis-court resurfacing contract; contractor to begin after Unity Days

The Mayfield Heights City Council adopted Resolution 2025-29, awarding the 2025 Tennis Court Improvement contract to Karen Asphalt Paving Inc. after the company submitted the lowest responsive bid and the award was recommended by the city's engineering consultant, GPD.
Council voted to suspend the rules and approve the emergency award. City staff said five firms submitted bids, and the lowest bid from Karen Asphalt was both below the engineer's estimate and below the department's budget for the project.
Councilmember Talben asked for confirmation that the perimeter fencing removal included replacement. City staff confirmed the contract is all-inclusive: “The entire perimeter fence is coming down, we're getting a new fence with new wind screens as well,” staff said. Staff said if the resolution were approved that evening they would hold a preconstruction meeting with the contractor and expected work to start immediately after the city’s Unity Days weekend. One staff speaker stated the contractor is contracted to complete the work in 30 days.
The council recorded unanimous votes to approve the resolution and the contract award was adopted. Staff said they would post schedule information on the city website and consider signage to notify park users that the courts are “coming soon.”
