Commissioners approve one-year renewal for county 9-1-1 system maintenance

Daviess County commissioners on June 9 approved a one-year renewal for maintenance and support of the county''s 9-1-1 equipment, county staff said.
The vote matters because maintenance agreements keep emergency-call systems operational; staff also told commissioners the vendor is beginning to phase out the platform, which could require future budget planning for replacement equipment.
"I just have a request to renew the maintenance and support agreement for our 9 1 1 system. It's just a 1 year contract for the support for anything if we have any issues with our 9 1 1 equipment," said Louie (central dispatch staff member). The board moved to approve the Motorola support and maintenance agreement and the motion passed, recorded as 3-0 in favor.
Louie said the equipment still functions but the vendor is shifting development to a different product line: "I mean, I believe so. It has been brought to my attention that they are potentially going to be phasing out this 9 11 equipment that we use... they're not gonna be developing any new things for this equipment that we use, and they're gonna be concentrating more on a different product. But this equipment, it still works." He said the county is receiving a year-to-year support arrangement and that vendors offered a small discount if the county needs to purchase a new system.
No public comments were recorded on the item at the meeting. Commissioners approved the one-year renewal by voice vote.
