Police chief presents annual report; department begins hiring after recent resignation

At the Port Washington Police and Fire Commission meeting on June 9, the police chief presented the police department’s annual report and reviewed invoices, municipal court statements and calls for service for April and May.
The chief said the annual report is comprehensive and will be posted on the city website after it goes through city hall. The commission had no substantive questions about the invoices, court statement or reports during the session.
The chief also reported that one officer resigned since the last meeting and the department has opened a hiring process; seven applicants had applied at the time of the June 9 meeting. The chief said the written testing for applicants is scheduled for June 21 at the police department. The department is seeking either recruits to send to academy or a lateral transfer to shorten onboarding time.
