The Solon Board of Education on June 9 approved a package of personnel actions that included limited contracts for classified aides and monitors, new teaching hires for 2025–26, unpaid childcare leaves, unpaid leaves of absence, and formal retirements.
Superintendent Bolden introduced Rebecca Smith as the district’s new assistant principal at Solon Middle School and invited the board to welcome her. “I would like to take this opportunity…to introduce to all of you our newest administrator in the team, Rebecca Smith. She is going to be our new assistant principal at Solon Middle School,” Bolden said.
The board approved limited contracts for aides and monitors (Item 5) and certified teacher limited contracts/new hires (Item 6) by motion and roll call; motions were moved and seconded by board members listed in the packet. The board also approved retirements of longtime employees and expressed appreciation for their service. The board held a public hearing (Item 8) on the prospective rehire of retired employee Aubrey Woods in compliance with Ohio Revised Code 3307.353; that hearing was the public‑comment step with the board noting that a resolution to complete the rehire would come at a future meeting.
Other personnel items approved included home instruction tutors for students on Individualized Education Programs, and substitute hires and payroll adjustments referenced in the packet. The superintendent said nonrenewals in spring allow the district to reassess and bring back aides and monitors as staffing needs are clarified.
