Board appoints University Hospitals as bus medical examiner; declares certain routes impractical

The Solon Board of Education on June 9 appointed University Hospitals Occupational Health as the district’s medical examiner to conduct bus‑driver medical examinations for the 2025–26 school year, a step the board said ensures compliance with state requirements.
The appointment was presented “in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 3301‑83‑07” and to ensure compliance with “Ohio Revised Code 4511.01 section f,” the superintendent said. The motion was moved by Mrs. Barksdale and seconded by Mr. Patton and approved by roll call.
Separately, the board adopted a resolution declaring transportation to certain schools impractical. The superintendent said impracticality determinations are made for reasons such as time and distance, low student counts for routes, and cost variance; when transportation is declared impractical, affected families are notified and may apply for a payment in lieu of transportation. The motion to declare transportation impractical was moved by Mr. Heckman and seconded by Mrs. Abramowitz and approved by roll call.
