Summary
A developer in the audience asked about the status of a CRA tax abatement on June 9; the mayor said the Stanley Steemer and Premier Development applications will be discussed in committee and scheduled a June 16 finance committee meeting to consider both along with the five-year capital plan.
WICKLIFFE, Ohio — During public comment at the June 9 Wickliffe City Council meeting, a local developer seeking a tax abatement asked whether his application had advanced from committee. The mayor responded that Stanley Steemer’s and Premier Development’s CRA (Community Reinvestment Area) tax-abatement applications would be placed in the appropriate committee for discussion and set a finance committee meeting for June 16 to review the Premier Development application alongside the existing Stanley Steemer CRA and the city’s five-year capital plan.
Speaker Terry Lazar, who said he owns a business on Lakeland Boulevard and is building a new building nearby, asked about the status of a tax-abatement application and said he had been told building prior to receiving an abatement could jeopardize eligibility. The mayor replied that the applications were not yet discussed but that they had been placed on the committee agenda for consideration that night and would be scheduled in finance committee.
At the end of the meeting the mayor announced a finance committee meeting for Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m. to discuss the Premier Development CRA application, the Stanley Steemer CRA, and the five-year capital plan. He also noted a 2026 tax-budget public hearing scheduled for June 23 before the council meeting.
Discussion only: no CRA abatements were granted at the June 9 meeting; council formally referred the Premier Development item to the finance committee for review.
