Superintendent says new stadium video board installed; audio subcontractor delay pushed training

Dr. Horrell, the district superintendent, told the Lakeland Board of Education at its June business meeting that video-board construction at the high school has been completed for the most part, but training and full operation were delayed because the audio subcontractor "were missing a few pieces" when they arrived.
"We did have the video board construction get kicked off, and for the most part the video board installation is complete," Dr. Horrell said. He said the delay affected scheduling for staff training and that he was coordinating with the main vendor to set a training date so the board could see the system in operation.
Horrell said much of the needed infrastructure—underground conduit and data lines—was already installed during the high school design, which made the installation easier. He thanked Digital Scoreboards, the vendor, and said the "board of commissioners was generous enough to donate those funds" that helped pay for the project.
Why it matters: the board and district rely on the new video board for athletic-season presentations and other school events; the remaining audio work and delayed training affect when the district can use the system for events.
Trustees did not take formal action on the installation at the meeting; Horrell said he expects the system to be operational "very soon" and hopes the board will see it before the start of athletic seasons.
