City Wins Grant for Recycling Trailer; Public Works to Offer Plastics-Only Bins

Mayor Scott James said the city's public works department secured a grant that purchased a multi-compartment recycling trailer and public recycling receptacles, and that residents can obtain the city’s designated plastics-only receptacles by signing an agreement.
“Amy has done a lot of work on applying for these grants. Mhmm. And we got the trailer, plus we've got, trash receptacles for recycling of plastics only. You can go down and pick them up at public works. You've got to sign a contract with it, because we want to make sure we keep track of these,” James said.
Why it matters: the grant-funded trailer will support mobile recycling efforts at events and during route collections; dedicated receptacles are intended to increase plastic recycling participation.
James said the trailer appeared at recent community events and that, when recycling is collected, staff will load materials into the trailer and bring them to the recycling center. He described the trailer as larger and more organized than older drop-off bins, with compartments for plastics, paper and aluminum.
