Board approves Scribner principal, assistant principal, transportation and preschool special education hires

The New Albany-Floyd County Schools board unanimously approved multiple administrative hires, including Jamie McCain Crick as Scribner Middle School principal, Courtney Jewell as assistant principal, Brad Caravou as transportation director and Kelsey LaPorte as preschool special education coordinator.
The New Albany-Floyd County Schools board unanimously approved four administrative hires during its May meeting, advancing the district’s staffing for the 2025–26 year.
Superintendent Dr. Madison recommended Jamie McCain Crick as principal of Scribner Middle School, citing more than 20 years with the district and leadership developing staff and a new-teacher program. “Her work ethic, demeanor, and vast administrative experience … make her the best choice to move into the role of principal at Scribner Middle School,” Dr. Madison said. The board approved the recommendation on a 7–0 roll call.
The board also approved Courtney Jewell as Scribner Middle School assistant principal. District administration noted Jewell’s bachelor’s degree from Marian University and educational leadership credentials from Western Governors University and cited her two years as multi-site principal for the JTC Academy in East St. Louis.
Dr. Belker recommended Brad Caravou for director of transportation. The recommendation noted Caravou’s experience as transportation director in Champaign Unit 4 (Ill.), Rio Rancho Public Schools (N.M.) and earlier roles in Colorado and Wisconsin, and said references described him as having strong relationships with drivers and staff. Caravou addressed the board and said he looked forward to “servicing the community” and helping students get to school “safely and efficiently.” The appointment passed 7–0.
Kelsey LaPorte was approved as the district’s administrative intern for preschool special education coordination; district staff said LaPorte has degrees in school psychology (M.Ed., Ed.S.) from Indiana State University and experience with early-childhood supports.
Roll-call votes for each approval were recorded as: Missus Weishardt — aye; Missus Carruthers — aye; Missus Ball — aye; Missus Galligan — aye; Mister Nafis — aye; Missus Northup — aye; Missus Garden Allen — aye.
Jamie McCain Crick offered brief remarks after her confirmation, saying she was “excited to take all that I’ve learned … to Scribner with me and lead with heart and focus on students and student learning.”
